Bidfood
Bidfood is a trusted wholesale food distributor in Australia known for its reliability, product variety and tailored service. They supply a wide range of quality ingredients and essentials to the hospitality and foodservice industries, including cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs.
Bidfood offers an extensive range of ingredients and essentials; including wholesale food, beverages, fresh seafood and meat, cleaning products and food packaging, all of which are promoted in their monthly catalogue.
The catalogue varies between 12 to 20 pages per issue and is set up for both digital and print distribution.
Design Process
I worked closely with the Purchasing Manager, who provided the supplier product images, catalogue allocations and an accompanying Excel spreadsheet with all product data.
Supplied imagery (including both food and product photography) was retouched in Adobe Photoshop and placed into a consistent Adobe InDesign template that aligns with Bidfood’s brand identity. This ensures each issue maintains a cohesive and professional look and enhances product appeal and buyer trust.
Once layouts were finalised, I integrated the product data, including SKUs, product descriptions and pricing, ensuring accuracy and seamless formatting into the existing design. This approach balances brand cohesion, usability and visual appeal, delivering a catalogue that is both practical for buyers and engaging for readers.
To support the accuracy and quality of the catalogue, a structured proofing process was included in the schedule to review the catalogue’s overall flow and visual alignment. This also provided the Purchasing Manager with transparency to view each supplier’s section in context and provide feedback. This collaborative approach ensured confidence in the final design and helped meet the strict monthly deadline in place, even while balancing other responsibilities.
Design Approach
My design approach was to create clean and modern layouts for each supplier that are visually engaging and effectively showcase their products. I ensured each supplier’s submission was visually distinct, creating contrast while remaining aligned with
Bidfood’s brand identity.
Attention was given to visual hierarchy, combining supplied product images and stock photography to encourage customer engagement and provide serving suggestions that inspire purchasing decisions.
Challenges
One of the key challenges that were managed was inconsistent or low-resolution assets from suppliers. Common issues included incorrect file types or poor-quality images. Depending on the situation, I would edit the images in Photoshop, adjust the scale within the layout or request alternative files. For brand assets, I kept a library of high-resolution materials and sourced suitable replacements when required.
