Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club Australia
(Victoria Branch)

The Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club Australia (Victoria Branch) is a motoring club dedicated to enthusiasts, owners, and admirers of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars. The branch brings together people who share an interest in the history, preservation and enjoyment of these luxury vehicles.

The 24-page monthly magazine supports the club’s mission by sharing information, reporting on activities, and helping to bring its community together.

Design Approach

The design approach for the magazine focuses on presenting information clearly while reflecting the heritage and prestige associated with Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars. As the publication is produced for club members, it is important that the design emphasises clarity and accessibility, ensuring that the content is easy to read and navigate. A refined and consistent visual style helps maintain a professional appearance while supporting the presentation of articles, event reports and club information.

Design Process

I worked closely with the Editor, who provided the written content and imagery sourced from Club contributors. The layout process remained flexible to accommodate various articles lengths, image quality and quantity.

A structured proofing process was included in the schedule to review the magazine’s overall flow, consistency and visual alignment. It also gave the Editor full transparency to view the articles and layout in context and provide changes or corrections. This collaborative step ensured we were both confident in the final design and helped us meet the strict deadline in place.

Once approved, the magazine was set up for both print and digital distribution.

Each edition typically includes:

  • A comprehensive Club Calendar outlining upcoming meetings, rallies, social gatherings and major club activities.

  • Event Reports and Photo Features capturing recent club events through engaging articles and imagery.

  • Member Stories sharing touring adventures, ownership experiences and restoration journeys.

  • Historical Features exploring notable models, engineering developments, and the heritage of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

  • Club Notices and Announcements communicating important updates and information for members.

Buy & Sell Listings featuring cars, parts, and memorabilia offered or sought by members.

Challenges

Managing inconsistent or low-resolution assets from contributors was a consistent challenge. Common issues included incorrect file types, awkward photo angles or low-quality images taken on mobile devices. Depending on the extent of the issue, I would edit the images in Photoshop, adjust the scale within the layout or omit them entirely if they compromised the layout.

For logos and brand assets, I kept a library of high-resolution materials or sourced suitable replacements as needed.
